Origami-

K* is fascinated with crafts.....cutting, coloring, painting, drawing, gluing, folding----you name it and she LOVES to do it! B* has shown her how to make paper balloons and fortune tellers- while I taught her how to make a flapping winged bird and a jumping frog- so yes- she is in heaven! We spend many evenings doing crafts which typically consist of one of the many origami creations she has learned. She used to constantly make the "fortune teller" but has now settled on the bird. So after school today she instructed me that she and I were to make 19 birds for her classmates! She then realized that she has the two she made the other day and so we only had to make 17.....YIPPEE! Well, being the GREAT mother that I am- I postponed dinner to make birds with my daughter! It actually worked out well because I needed to take pictures for my blog and because we were preoccupied with folding paper- when B* came home- he fixed dinner! Ok- that's not all that special being we ate the calzones from meal swap (all he had to do was throw them in the oven) but hey he did it without complaining and he fixed the kiddos chicken nuggets! So enjoy pictures......



Start with a square piece of paper..........

Next, fold your paper into a triangle.....

Now fold that in half.....

Make a lot of other folds until you end up with this.....

Unfold that.....

Make a few more folds.....

and wah-lah! You have a bird!

And about an hour later.....

You have SEVENTEEN birds!

$64,000 in Gas....

"Okay- so I had to look into this. If you plan on driving a car that
gets about 30 miles to the gallon, and gas is $3.00 per gallon and
you guesstimate the distance around the earth to be about 24,900
miles you could drive around the earth 25 and 1/2 times for $64,000.
Just thought I would share.

Now you can drive back in forth to Indy from Fishers 5 days a week
for an entire year and it will cost you about $2340.

LOL! So here's the back story.......B* saw a job posting of a position available very similar to what he does now and decided why not look into it. So he was given the impression yesterday to name his price and they would try to accommodate him because he's more than qualified- because the job is located near the airport the commute is NOT appealing- so he wanted to see what the cost of gas would be with a 45min drive each way verses the 5-10min drive he has right now.....well somehow while running the numbers we came to the conclusion that if he were to take this job it would cost $64,000 in gas which is $50,000 more than we are paying right now?! Well, we both sat there last night rerunning the numbers and decided that if he were to take this position than we would have to relocate because there's NO WAY we will spend that much! So this morning at the end of bible study during our praises/prayer requests I ask that the other moms pray that we make the right decision.......and as I am trying to convince them that yes it will indeed cost $64,000 in gas I realize that in our mathematical equation B*'s car will only average 1 mile per gallon:) Ha ha ha- I know I will never live this down:) That's ok- I am a natural blond but you know at least you can count on me for a good laugh.....now B*- yeah we should be worried about him!

So I was catching up on some emails(I am a part of a mom's yahoo group for moms on the northside of Indy- and I get emails constantly with all of the days posts which I rarely make time to read) and one of the topics today is about whether you are an Alpha or Beta mom. I loved this quote that one of the mom's tells herself and her daughter! I really need to listen to her advice as I know that more often than not I am more concerned with cleaning the house/doing laundry/dishes/etc. before sitting down to play with the kids:( I need to prioritize my time better- spending time with my children should take priority over a "clean" house but all to often- it doesn't! Anyway, I thought it was a great quote and I hope to apply it to myself more often and hey maybe you can to! So which are you....."Alpha" or "Beta"?
"Alpha" mom--the multitasking, type A mom who is just as good at helping her kids with long division as blogging about parenting and running her own business. She takes Super Mommyhood to a whole new level, running schedules, juggling demands, and making homemade cookies for the bake sale.
Then there are the "Beta" moms--the Slacker moms, who just want everyone to lighten up. They might forget a child's doctor's appointment or decide not to sign their kid up for gymnastics because it's too much of a pain, but they don't care because they figure motherhood isn't a race. They believe that fostering independence and creativity in kids is more important than classes, schedules, and exposure to edifying activities.
I think that I am a little of both.....and the not so good qualities for that- I am definitely a multi-tasker who bites off WAY MORE than I can chew but at the same time I am also the one who is constantly running late and no my kids aren't in a lot of after school activities(although that has more to do with cost than laziness)! What a beautiful day!

So today was a good day- the weather was beautiful! We went on a long walk around the neighborhood enjoying each others company as well as stopping at the park for the kiddos. The ground was a little soggy, I forgot my camera at home, but all in all it was a lot of fun! C* had fun on the jungle gym while K* enjoyed climbing on the broken tree trunks-I think they both just enjoyed being outside! I can tell the kids and I are definitely ready for spring! We also grilled out tonight- I know a little premature but hey it was 50+ degrees outside and we were enjoying every minute! Anyway, no new pics to share just thought I would post about our day. Hope all is well for everyone!

C*- Growing Up!

B* and K* went out and ran some errands this afternoon so C* and I had some mommy/son time. He was having fun playing on the rocking horse and then running and jumping onto the beanbag chair. Lucky for me he let me snap some pictures. It's a rare occasion but I appreciate any moment my family will give me!

Hello again-
I think I am on the road to recovery. I am feeling a lot better now- still coughing but better.

Thankfully no one else in my family has gotten sick. I was worried that K* may have coming down with something but luckily that wasn't the case and she is fine. I am excited to go to her classroom this afternoon to read to her class. They are celebrating reading today in honor of Dr. Seuss' birthday so I am going to read my favorite Dr. Seuss book "What was I Scared of?" and I am also going to read "A Fly Went By". I don't know that Brian is quite as excited though he did agree to go in and read "Bears in the Night" and "Green Eggs and Ham".

I had my CRHP formation last night and I am so thankful that it is once a week as it keeps that spark lit. I leave our meeting with a sense of peace- I know that I am truly blessed in so many ways and yet it's easy to let the little trials and obstacles that make up our life consume us so that we don't appreciate what we have. But after each meeting I feel strong and grateful as I know that God has blessed my life with so much-

C*, B*, and I are working on the letter "P" this week and I snapped a few pictures of them playing with playdough. I am sharing a few of the pictures but please keep in mind that C* insisted on wearing his "scary" skeleton shirt! Enjoy-

Um yeah- don't even read that first post.....

Obviously, I have failed miserably at yet another resolution! Oh well, I'm really not that torn up about it. So this year has proven busy as always- I am happy with where we are but would love it if our house would sell already! I am very excited to get into something smaller so I can spend less time cleaning and more time blogging....right- like cleaning is my reason for not blogging?!


Anyway, I have also tried photographing my children more but of course never post the pics? So here are a few from this weekend.....we finally had enough snow and no plans and were able to take the kiddos sledding. Yes, I was sick with the flu- fever and all and still managed to get enough strength to go with the family to the sledding hill down the street. It wasn't much fun for me as my chest was killing and I could barely breathe but K* had fun racing down the hill while C* enjoyed digging in the snow and throwing snowballs. Enjoy the pics-
